Job Description
*Summary – Mental Health Nurse*
Participates and supervises the process of providing patient and nursing staff consultations in the Emergency Department and on all nursing units; assesses psychiatric needs of patients, determines a plan of care and/or assists nursing staff to meet patient needs. Works with the Emergency Department and Inpatient units to facilitate throughput of the mental health patients.
*Minimum Qualifications – Mental Health Nurse*
* Must possess a current license to practice professional nursing or possess a temporary practice permit in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
* Appropriate clinical experience with a thorough knowledge of the scientific principles of nursing; a thorough knowledge of professional nursing standards; developed skill in delivering nursing care and the ability to adapt of individual needs required.
* Two or more years of psychiatric nursing experience or clinical experience in a related field
* A fundamental understanding of personal computers and familiarity with windows operating systems.
* The ability to successfully complete a competency based orientation and annual competency testing of skills and/or knowledge that is necessary to provide care to specific patient populations.
*Preferred Qualifications – Mental Health Nurse*
* Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
* At least one year of psychiatric emergency room and/or psychiatric consultation-liaison experience.
