Position Overview
A large acute care hospital in South Carolina is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Surgery for a locum tenens assignment. The provider will work primarily in the operating room with responsibilities spanning vein harvesting, first assist on open heart cases, ICU admissions, and pre/post-operative surgical care.
~$200K for assignment.
Assignment Highlights

Schedule:
-
Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM (8 hrs/day)

Call: ~5% weekdays, ~75% weekends (primarily ER call) — included in daily rate
Practice Setting: Inpatient (90%) + Outpatient (10%)
Patient Population: Adults only
Daily Caseload: ~10 patients/day (5 admissions, 5 ICU, 4 surgeries)
Support: 4 cardiothoracic surgeons and 7 APPs
Beds: 720 total
EMR: Epic
Pay Ranking: This package ranks in the top 10–15% of current market pay for cardiothoracic surgery PA locum roles in South Carolina.
Skills & Experience
Physician Assistant with at least 2 years of cardiothoracic surgery experience (required)
Must be able to:
Harvest vein
First assist surgeon on all open heart cases
Provide suturing and perioperative surgical care
Epic EMR experience (preferred)
ACLS and DEA (required)
Active South Carolina license (required; will consider candidates willing to license)
