Position Overview

One of our Partners in North Carolina is seeking a Board-Certified Transplant Surgeon to provide weekend call coverage during recruitment. This is an academic, high-acuity transplant program within a 974-bed Level I Trauma Center serving a 29-county region.

This opportunity offers Top 12% market provider pay (2026 locums transplant surgery call data) with structured weekend call blocks approximately one weekend per month.

 

Assignment Highlights
  • Top 12% Provider Pay – 2026 Market Data (Transplant Surgery Weekend Call)

  • Approximately 125–150 transplants per year

  • Weekend Call Only – 7am Friday to 7am Monday

  • Approximately 1 weekend per month

  • Inpatient responsibilities only

  • Not required to remain on-site while on call

  • Resident coverage in place

  • Average inpatient census: 8–12

  • 10–12 transplant cases per month

  • Travel prepaid

  • Malpractice coverage provided

  • HPA Healthcare is a Joint Commission–certified agency

Job Responsibilities
  • Weekend transplant call coverage

  • Review and accept organ offers

  • Perform deceased donor renal transplants

  • Perform deceased donor simultaneous kidney/pancreas transplants

  • Coordinate with transplant coordinators and multidisciplinary team

  • Participate in academic transplant service support

  • Manage post-transplant inpatient care with resident team

Skills & Experience
  • Fellowship trained in Transplant Surgery

  • Board Certified in General Surgery

  • Minimum 5 years transplant surgery experience

  • Active NC License (or IMLC eligible preferred)

  • BLS & ACLS (AHA)

  • Comfortable working in academic teaching environment

  • Experience reviewing organ offers independently
