Job Description
The Recreation Therapist plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities for youth, promoting healthy lifestyles, socialization, and skill development.
Develops and delivers programs including arts, sports, drama, music, dance, and community trips tailored to treatment plans. Assists youth through role modeling and providing positive play experiences. Ensures safety by supervising facilities, performing safety inspections, and managing risk. Documents progress, participates in treatment team meetings, and supports service plan reviews. Supervises recreational activities and facilities for up to three youth, completes reports, and assists with special events. Qualifications include a relevant bachelor’s degree, youth recreation experience, CPR certification, and a valid NYS driver’s license; OMH-funded roles require a Master’s and CTRS credential. Skills include effective communication, conflict resolution, behavioral de-escalation, and teamwork.
