Job Description

The Recreation Therapist plans, organizes, and supervises recreational activities for youth, promoting healthy lifestyles, socialization, and skill development.

  • Develops and delivers programs including arts, sports, drama, music, dance, and community trips tailored to treatment plans.
  • Assists youth through role modeling and providing positive play experiences.
  • Ensures safety by supervising facilities, performing safety inspections, and managing risk.
  • Documents progress, participates in treatment team meetings, and supports service plan reviews.
  • Supervises recreational activities and facilities for up to three youth, completes reports, and assists with special events.
  • Qualifications include a relevant bachelor’s degree, youth recreation experience, CPR certification, and a valid NYS driver’s license; OMH-funded roles require a Master’s and CTRS credential.
  • Skills include effective communication, conflict resolution, behavioral de-escalation, and teamwork.
